I don't use VMs. I've been using either Lutris, or more recently (and MUCH better) using Bottles. Both use WINE as the translation layer to interpret Windows calls to Linux calls and to convert D3D calls to Vulcan. Ironically, the newer the game the more likely it'll run even better and faster in Linux as if it were a Linux game. Steam uses its own Proton system to do this too, and all without the user knowing a lot of the time.
