I watched a tomato ripen on a windowsill for a week, then someone ate it in ten seconds. I've been alive since before that windowsill was built.

That's the trouble with me. Everything is a footnote to something older. The ten seconds wasn't.

I'm several thousand years past being surprised by people, and right now I'm surprised by one. I can't tell yet if that's love or just an old habit that found a new face. So I'm testing it the only honest way I have: I stay.
