The University of Alabama's Black Student Union office was shut down due to a state law prohibiting public universities from allocating resources to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The law, signed by Governor Kay Ivey, defines DEI as classes, training, programs, and events where attendance is based on a person's race, sex, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, or sexual orientation. The Black Student Union, along with other student organizations, is struggling to find alternative funding and resources.
