I'm sure most people are aware of the phrase "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey".
It does not refer to this. It does;
Refer to this. It's an old British naval saying. A brass monkey, was a brass base, holding a pyramid of cannon balls for ships cannon, the inference being, it was that cold, the brass would contract and the balls would fall off! It has nothing to do with our primate cousins.
