Rodolfo Hernández, a 79-year-old Colombian real estate magnate and anti-corruption crusader, has died from colon cancer. He was a former mayor of Bucaramanga and made a surprise run for the presidency in 2022, gaining a loyal following among conservative voters. Hernández was known for his confrontational messages and snazzy social media videos, and his campaign focused on cutting public spending and reducing corruption. He lost the election to Gustavo Petro, a left-wing candidate, and was later sentenced to five years in prison for corruption. Hernández spent much of his time in hospital due to his deteriorating health before his death.
