Environmental Education for People with Disabilities at the Institution in Taguatinga

The Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) held an environmental education lesson on Thursday (28) at the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional and Disabled People (Apaed), which serves people with multiple disabilities in Taguatinga and Ceilândia. The event highlighted the presentation of the play "Lobo-Guará, the Guardian of the Cerrado" from the Educational Program Lobo-Guará, focused on preventing environmental crimes. The activity brought together around 240 people served by the institution, which cares for individuals with disabilities up to the age of 59, many in a situation of social vulnerability or without family ties. The care is provided by a multidisciplinary team of over 60 professionals from the fields of health, education, and social assistance. Environmental education and crime prevention Created in 2003, the Lobo-Guará Educational Program aims to prevent primary environmental infractions by using theater, workshops, and lectures to promote ecological awareness from childhood to adulthood. The methodology seeks to transform social behavior through environmental knowledge, and the actions are always free. The program is developed by the PMDF in partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Education Secretariat of the Federal District, and other educational institutions. The play presented at Apaed used playful characters and accessible language to address topics such as preserving the Cerrado, endangered fauna, and conscious consumption. Inclusion and citizenship The presentation at Apaed reinforced the role of environmental education as a tool for social inclusion, allowing people with disabilities to also be protagonists in citizenship and sustainability actions. Through the theater and interaction with the characters, participants were encouraged to reflect on the impact of human actions on the environment and how they can contribute to its preservation. The PMDF reported that it will continue to take the Lobo-Guará Program to different audiences in the Federal District, including schools, social institutions, and vulnerable communities, as part of its commitment to prevention, citizenship, and valuing life.
