And sometimes the perks are explicitly advertised as making up for inadequate salary. In more recent years, one place told me they probably couldn't pay as much as I was looking for, but they had a really good Christmas party each year, which would make up for it. Another place told me they couldn't offer a very high salary, but the team had regular outings to play pool together. In both cases, they seemed to think they were making a compelling argument😂
