I'm probably not the only one who noticed that the 22 billion that the UK government have devoted to carbon capture and storage is only a little smaller than the cumulative number of tonnes of coal burned by the UK over the past two centuries. It's a figure that XKCD played with this week.

In my next Fermi question workshop I'm going to get my students to estimate the total volume of the CO2 that needs to be stored to be "net zero" (as a solid and then as a liquid). https://xkcd.com/2992/
