Yesterday I did my taxes for 2025.
This is remarkable.
First, I paid 42% income tax.
On top of that I pay 25% VAT on everything I buy.
On top of THAT I pay payroll taxes, energy taxes, property taxes, capital taxes, environmental product taxes, public service fees, and burial fees.
Oh, and of course the most insidious taxes of all: price inflation, shrinkflation, reduction in the quality of food, architecture, science, education, health, and relationships.
Including all layers, the total tax wedge on labor and consumption in Sweden lands around 90% of the economic value produced.
