The adage of getting what you pay for is still sort of true for consumer goods, but the bigger problems are systemic. We don't have enough transparency into how things are designed and manufactured. There are zero incentives for companies to use generic, standardised subassemblies for field repairability, and not much in the way of cradle-to-grave accountability, let alone requirements for circularity.
