Quick reminder, or new tip;)
Since #Mastodon or the #fediverse in general doesn't use #algorithms like the evilcorps the only way subjects/posts can be followed effectively are through the use of #hashtags
So if I want to follow #knitting for example, do a search for that hashtag and follow ... now everytime some posts using that you will see it in your timeline.
This is where it is super important for you as the poster to remember to use many #s
