The other day I was at a luncheon in gunbarrel and was asked about my heritage and for a variety of reasons (mostly exhaustion of having to explain myself to white folks who seemingly have no access to google) I said “Iroquois” even though we name ourselves Haudenosaunee.
Iroquois is a bit of a slur- the name given to us by our enemies - snake people.
