In the UK, the Daily Mail’s owner is to buy The Telegraph.

This appears to be accompanied by lots of excited talk about the competition regulator getting involved, which strikes me as odd, since Murdoch owns both The Sun and The Times. This is literally the same.

Also, Global owns 50%+ of *all* radio advertising, while competitor Bauer owns 40%+ of the rest, in a duopoly that makes newspapers seem ultra-competitive.

And while the newspaper industry is undoubtedly powerful, it is considerably less powerful than twenty years ago.

In short, I can’t see any reason why the CMA would need to be involved at all.
