Email is critical infrastructure in today's digitalized world. Relying on foreign hosting is not a good idea for anybody at risk of political interference because of their profession.
Hosting email locally is still very much possible, even if it gets more involved year of year. Email is the one federated protocol that we have for direct communication. Even with all of its deficiencies in security and privacy, it is the common denominator that connects people. Don't give up control over your own, most basic digital communication channel. Use local hosting companies that you can still call in an emergency, ideally within your own (maybe extended, like EU level) jurisdiction.
