I do think that slur use matters, but I also think that their significance has been exaggerated by the performative progressives, who use it as a way to easily pose themselves as “the good guys.” It’s really easy to just not use a word, then point at others who use it and talk about how horrible those people are, all while actively contributing to the systemic oppression of those very groups.
