I had read hobbit, LOTR, and Silmarillion way back in high school. Many decades later out came his movies and I quite liked LOTR, at least until I re-read the books. I hadn’t remembered enough.

Gollum and Shelob came out all right.

The Hobbit was a lot worse. I will never ever forgive him for how he characterized dwarves. Gimli is the only one he did right by.

Audiobooks are the stories; some of them are quite remarkable production.
