My story: A few years ago the phone company said they could not repair our copper wire land line. We moved our phone number over to a VOIP service for a one-time cost of $100 for equipment and then $17/month. Works great, you just plug your internet and your old phone into the box. You can also make and receive landline calls & voicemails from your cell phone using their app. It takes about a week to "port" your land line # over to the VOIP service, and costs about $50.
