I never managed to reliably get E2E encryption enabled across different messengers with Jabber (even when using some of the publicly available and for sure professionally managed Jabber hosts out there) - the encryption standards are an absolute mess and in my opinion not usable (and i.e.: not secure) in a real-world, federated scenario.
