Training a child in autonomy is very different than leaving a child to fend for themselves, or letting them run rampant.
Training a child in autonomy means training them in making decisions for themselves, believing that they are powerful and treating them like such, while also training the in knowing that other people are also powerful, and respecting their own and other people's boundaries.

It means skipping all the "because I said so", or "you should just obey me because I'm an adult," which actually trains people in becoming sheep, easily lead to the slaughter.
