I don't think this matters much. Open source code quality is not necessarily better. It's about the culture, practices and resources of whomever is responsible. Verifiable source transparency is primarily a security benefit because of public accountability and an open license ensures the code you depend on can't be taken away. Open source, as practiced, as a big hippy drum circle, is a mess. Everybody is building on a thousand dependencies that they assume someone else has read. Piles of third party trust and not enough accountability. Deep layers of supply chain with unknown build and distribution security.

This model is ending the way that the insecure free-for-all of the early internet era had to end. AI is making it easier to build more responsibly without commits from an unaccountable mob and easier to get powned if you don't. It not that AI really changes the equation, but it scales some key variables.
