Which is to say that despite what's happening in Gaza being a primarily US-driven catastrophe, I sincerely think there is a desperate desire for some Americans, including among those who would call themselves Leftists, to separate the actions of "Israel" from the authorizations and armaments of its benefactor.
And I don't have a great explanation for this beyond a lazy claim that these folks have been deeply propagandized and deluded by the supposed "promise" of those United States.
