Have you considered a private email provider like Fastmail? The harsh truth is that we’ve been conditioned to expect email to be ‘free,’ but if you don’t want your data to be traded for the cost of providing the service you have to be prepared to pay. I like Fastmail: email is all they do, they’re competent, the service is full-featured (example: I can bring my own domain and create endless forwarding addresses), and the price is reasonable.
