I personally couldn’t stand Genesis and I now realise it was primarily because I couldn’t stand the other people at school who liked Genesis – it was very much a school band for other schoolchildren and by that I mean schoolboys, not girls – it promulgated a specific Englishness that was to me quite unhealthy and narrow and ‘something to believe in’ and I suspect that the people who got into Genesis at school would later grow up to prize their Englishness and are now adults who want nothing else other than to stop immigration because of this early instilled fiction they participated in at school – it was all too much of a club, it seemed to me
