They've developed a similar gene therapy for deafness caused by a faulty protein that causes the cells that turn hair movement into electrical impulses to stop working.
They extract some of the protein cells, correct the genes, inject them back, and after some months the corrected proteins replicate and take over as the bad proteins die off.
Voila! No more deafness.
