Unfortunately for Zorn, he disliked the name because he considered the lemma too trivial. One of the many stories Steve Shatz used to tell first year grad students (or anyone else who would listen) was how when he went to give a talk at Indiana University, someone warned him beforehand that if he needed to use Zorn's Lemma, he should call it 'The Maximum Principle', else Zorn would object.
