My read of the situation is that basically bluesky has 3x server roles and even more usage of DNS records. Whereas typical mastodon instances only really think about 1 logical server and 1 DNS record to think about. So imo it still is more expensive.
I'm not 100% convinced by the bluesky architecture (well more so, I'm not sure of the full picture) it still seems needlessly complex and well, just different from ActivityPub, for the sake of doing something different.
