I wished I'd learned this earlier in my career -- that writing to support a point of view is allowed to change its mind. It's fine to mostly finish a draft only to realize I was wrong all along, and then write to acknowledge that.
Same with school essays -- I wish someone had told me that the essay doesn't have to agree with the premise.
