my current laptop (just over a year old) doesn't have ethernet either, but I did get a usb c 2.5G ethernet for it, & that works fine when I need something better than WiFi.
In fact, I got a usb a 2.5G one at the same time & the old laptop ran at full speed fine, even though it dated from 2013
