The result is that the country has moved so far to the right that the right has to be fascist in order to stay right of the center! And even with this fascism on the rise, the left is told to shut up and to "get in line like the gop." Any organic movements arising on the left such as Black Lives Matter, or the Sanders electoral movement, are demonized, othered, misrepresented, and constantly barraged with demands to tone it down and be more republican. Are we willing to look in this mirror?
