Post-motherhood, I moved from the private to public sector.
Culture shock or what! (Tho' not as difficult as the reverse. A friend went through that and it nearly broke them.)
Sweeping generalisation, but I think there is a greater tolerance of incompetence in the public sector. The 'time served' approach to promotion was still dominant. It also seemed that if you joined in a lower level role, that's how you'd always be perceived, no matter your previous experience.
