A problem with US society is that the most outspoken proponents of "protecting women" obviously see women as inferior, they see womanhood inherently as an extension of the male desire for procreation, and they see female-adjacent people in general as unable to make their own decisions.
Nearly every misogynistic policy in the US is framed in some way as protecting the women involved from themselves. Whether it be bans on abortion, medically unfounded restrictions to estrogen access (for both postmenopausal and transgender women), or severe limitations on financial/political autonomy.
