Ah it was the exact same for me! Noticed them in my parents bookshelf around 13-14 years of age and fell for them.❤
I read the Pearl first and then the red pony and there it started. I think Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden have also impacted me a lot. Loved Tortilla flat and Cannery row a lot as well.
