I've been trying to take a more active interest in the cultures of my ancestors. Not just my parents' and grandparents' generations, but going back to traditional practices of centuries ago. In my ancestry, that means Northumbria and the Danelaw, what it now Northern England and a bit of Southern Scotland.

One thing in particular which seems to have been lost is a *lot* of dishes, especially peasant dishes, which had to be cheap and nutritious, and often cooked in bulk.
