The other thing is realpolitik... Iran entered the game with interventions in e.g. Syria and also the Iranian-backed Houthis were able to close the Red Sea to American commerce during Resident Biden. It was naive to think that America would take that challenge to hegemony without serious consequences even if they were not immediately forthcoming. And I remind the readers that a large amount of oil still exists in the Persian Gulf region, which US and Anglo concerns are interested in, and the USA has successfully induced regime change in Iran already, albeit a long time ago.
Anyway, it's clear that under Resident Rump there is a very different agenda in play, aggressive and expansionist without the pretense of the neoliberal age. The USA is back to believing in zero sum games like in the 19th century. We have gone "back to the future". The age of empires is far from over people...
