as a barefoot runner, only advice I have is: take it easy, build up distance, short walks, then longer. Before going full on. It took me nearly 9 months to get fully used to walking and I only started to run 7 years later. OK, I could probably have started earlier, but my mid life crisis didn't start before then ;)
