If we’re being completely honest, Mastodon already getting so many donations for saying they’re thinking about hiring a safety lead or whatever while folks like me who have been working on safety tools that have been proven to work still have anxiety about paying rent proves two things about the fedi.

The first is that the fedi already has resources to be self sufficient.

And the second is that unless those faces making tools and platforms are white, they will, for the most part, not be given access to those resources despite doing better work.

Which, again, proves the fedi’s problem has never been technology.
