Tonight I tried Terminus Machina by

It's a Deus Ex mod set in its own world, where you are a homeless hacktivist scraping by in a future where all the white collar jobs have been automated, the rich got armies of androids, and you can be on the receiving end of a drone strike for walking in the wrong neighborhood.

It's kinda a period piece in the sense that it extrapolates from e.g. Occupy, its lingo and the events in Greece (austerity, Golden Dawn) which are still casual discussion points. I don't know how long it is but I guess it must be short since some of the dialog is written like it's trying to cram as many ideas as possible, like when I mediated to stop bigots withholding charity food from migrants and got a whole lecture on class warfare. Can come off stilted but it's put where it's effective.

Mechanically it got its own twists. You sniff packets on public networks that you decipher by switching algorithms and tables. You scrap objects lying on the streets like dead smartphones to craft gadgets such as a LED mask (to fool cameras or do social engineering). It seems you can also do guerilla gardening lol. It's a lot grittier than being the nanoaugmented agent from Deus Ex but still sci-fi feeling. CyberPUNK where the PUNK is front and center. Did stuff I wouldn't brag about to not starve.

It's difficult but it's good stuff.
