Another vote for Kobo Libra Colour - it's waaay better than my old Kindle and I love that it has physical buttons.
I DLed all my Amazon books before the deadline, bunged them all into Calibre, de-DRMed them and then exported them as EPUBS.
Then I connected the Kobo via USB and dragged my books onto it. Easy!
