Between Pit Bull and Don Quixote
It always happens to me like this – when I am fully immersed in the realization of one project, a need suddenly arises to undertake another artistic endeavor. Over many years of experience, I have learned to be "ductile" in such situations, so as not to sacrifice the value of one project for the sake of another. I simply take a break, provided time allows, to accomplish something that seems almost impossible.
This time, I was contacted by my beloved city of Jelenia Góra, which I consider to be my second hometown on this globe. After many years of efforts, the department of culture and the city authorities managed to secure funding for the conservation and relocation of my first public steel artwork, titled Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, which I unveiled in 1999 during the "Days of Spain" on the outskirts of the city. Since then, I have sculpted and unveiled three steel sculptures in the city center, commemorating significant events in the contemporary history of Jelenia Góra, thereby creating a kind of steel sculpture trail in the charming heart of the city.
And so today, I had to apologize to my dear Pit Bull – after three months of joint steel battle – as I will have to part with him for 15 days to attend to my equally beloved Don Quixote, who, after 25 years, has finally matured to take his place in the honorable trail of my sculptures.
So, starting on Monday, I invite you to follow my coverage of the entire process of moving and reinstalling this work. Additionally, I will be sharing with you my personal story related to this city, along with its rich historical and cultural heritage.
