This is how fascism works, it makes people mistrust reality and not know what's true. It's societal gaslighting and it's why Musk bought Twitter, to disrupt and control collective meaning making and to promote confusion and lies. It's why fascists target universities and groups that have their own ability to create meaning collectively (so queer people, other religious groups, Swifties lol, etc). It's why us culture theory nerds have been talking about and warning about epistemological collapse (the collapse of knowledge/meaning) and why fascists (and cult leaders) create and use disorienting people then indoctrinating them and doublespeak to create a meaning vacuum they can shove "certainty" into. Knowing your own heart and mind, and having strong and honest relationships and living our values, and being able to tolerate uncertainty, is how we protect ourselves from becoming fascists.
