I think it's because perverts are the ones that always want to debate them. It was central to the YouTube atheist thing in the early 2000s. Midwits would learn the apologetics counter arguments and regurgitate them while patting themselves on the back for being smart.
Then they adopted 3rd wave feminism and SJWism. The degeneration and "debate me" impulses continue.
