Yes, BTC (Blockstream Token Coin) has been coopted and does not serve as a Peer to Peer Electronic Cash that does not need a third party.
As a person promoting adoption, I know you run into plenty of complexities with LN. I know the poorer areas you service cannot truly afford on-chain fees.
There are better options. One, as metioned above, is Monero. The other is actually bitcoin. It is called Bitcoin Cash and it too shares the bitcoin genesis block with that famous anti-establishment quote.
Please, think what you will about the above, but just as I come back to, and test, the BTC / LN environment, you owe it to yourself, and those you teach adoption to, to become familiar with the true peer to peer bitcoin, #BCH.
This is not an ideological request, this entirely practical. BCH is bitcoin that is far easier to use than BTC/LN.
