Not saying to kick the kid, or their parents, in the shins but... You'll have a much bigger impact helping the kids who brought their own give a shit than trying to force some give a shit into a kid that doesn't have it. TV and movies lie, there is no magic teacher skill that makes problem students into good ones.*
