The *birthrate* is the number of children per woman.

Women who get to have children (or are forced to) are having fewer children. In some places, more women are also having no children.

But it's not the mean, scary child free, or sad pitiful childless among us who are bringing down the stats, as the media would have you believe.

And all three groups, the mothers, the childfree and the childless, have their reasons. Leave us alone. Or, better, make childcare free and try a universal basic income, and see what happens.
