This all matters because we are living in a world in which democracy and public policy is being undermined by populism, hate, and misinformation. The left is not immune to this disease, but the right has become the super spreader. I believe the important political spectrum of our time is policy vs populism. Populism enables extremism because it is decision making based on stoked outrage rather than deliberation.
