Until the pandemic I avoided studying the math of music - I just listened to lots of music and improvised on the piano, taking an intuitive approach. Then I realized "hey, I'm actually good at math, it's silly to completely avoid learning about the math of music, I can probably do it pretty quickly". But when I play music I still don't think about math.
