I feel like "JavaScript is already quite good", too, but I wonder if I'm limited by my imagination of what might be coming next, and that then would not necessarily be usable without tooling. But the arguments in the slides make sense to me as well, but then I'm not an engine implementor, so I have to (and do) believe them when they say it's a challenge to keep up.
