RIGHTS only exist by force. The TRUTH behind moral principles is NOT that they are truly inalienable or inviolate. The fact that slavery, despotism, murder, and the like exists is proof that there is NO right that cannot be invalidated by properly applied force.
The TRUTH behind rights is that there is NO other way to live. When everyone is a slave, there is no incentive to produce any more than what keeps the whip off of you. The slave driver spends his energy on the whip instead of on innovation or more productive craft. And the slave repeats the same pattern, but with more weariness, until he expires.
A society without rights slowly drains the cultural momentum and technological innovation until it is swallowed into an ever-spiraling race to the bottom, within which said society will eventually collapse.
The west was the first civilization to recognize rights and abolish slavery. It was also the first to realize the industrial and captitalist revolutions, and it was also the fist civilization to conquer all others.
This is NOT a coincidence, but the ROOT CAUSE.
quotingGood to have them codified, but the problem that people think their rights come from the law, rather than the law coming from the rights.
