My father grew up in one of those deep canyons in coastal california, which are now filled with palaces, hobby ranches, and shitty opinions.

back when dad lived there though, those canyons were where poor people lived. in any given year there was an equal chance of your house being burned up or washed away.

houses were small, often trailers, and everyone was part of the volunteer fire brigade.
a lot has changed in those canyons. i hear they had shitty opinions back then too, though.
