Someone just asked me a question I can't answer, and the enshittification of search isn't quickly providing an answer from a source I trust.
We know what the line of succession is for various members of the executive branch. Is there a formal line of succession for *candidates* for the executive branch?
The questions were:
What happens if a candidate dies right before the election,
and/or
what happens if a candidate dies after the election, but before the swearing in....does the VP candidate automatically become the person sworn in?
If yes, the VP auto succeeds, what if both the P and VP elect died before the swearing in...would the federal succession line kick in, or would there need to be a whole new election?
